When you open the windows of the apartment in the morning, the wonderfully invigorating Alpine air beckons you outside. Perhaps the first rays of sunshine are already tickling your nose and really awaken your desire for a day of hiking in Saalbach Hinterglemm. So, lace up your hiking boots, pack your rucksack and head off for some hiking fun. You can hike towards happiness on more than 400 km of hiking trails. Only you can decide whether you want to climb a peak or be content with a scenic hike. The choice of beautiful hiking trails, refreshing torrents, hilly Alpine meadows, imposing rock formations and Alpine huts with delicious Brettljause (snacks) is just great.
The Joker Card enable hikers to reach lofty heights and start a leisurely hike from there. Alpine pros immortalise themselves in the summit book of Tristkogel and Gamshag at the end of the valley and enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Wilder Kaiser and the peaks of the Hohe Tauern. High-spirited mountaineers who love challenges can add the Seven Summits to their holiday programme. A 24 km long mountain tour leads them to the seven highest peaks of the Glemmtal.
To get started on the day of arrival or as a short hike in between, a walk on the Promenade 5 is ideal. The circular trail starts very close to the Wieshofgut and leads over asphalt, gravel, and narrow forest paths with a magnificent view of Hinterglemm. With a walking time of just under 70 minutes, a difference in altitude of 110 m and a total length of 3.3 km, the circular trail is also perfectly suitable for families.
What sounds so easy-going is a long-distance hike that leads from Schattberg to Schmittenhöhe. You go up and down with the gondolas, and it’s worth getting up early and taking advantage of the early morning ascent at 7:30 am (from Monday to Friday) on the Schattberg X-Press. Stamina is required on the Pinzgau hike, so it’s best to warm up your legs a little.
There are no refreshment stops, so your rucksack should be well-stocked with provisions. Perhaps with a few delicacies from our Wieshofgut breakfast basket? Once you have reached your destination, the Schmittenhöhebahn will take you back down into the valley. There it is worth taking a short detour to the rejuvenating waters of the Zeller See.
